This volunteer effort has many benefits to the participants, including teaching teamwork and engineering essentials. Life skills and inspiration alone would make being involved in the program worthwhile, but the high schoolers and mentors can take pride in having both entries accepted as finalists in the competition.

Four teams from the Automotive X Prize showed up, so they were competitors the West Philly teams had seen before. Spirit of Innovation: This contest limited entry to five members of the team, who designed a business plan around the Electric Very Light car, which is still in the production stage. More than entrants from the United States and Britain entered the competition, and 35 teams were chosen as finalists.

Twelve to 15 teams competed in the Cyber technology energy-efficiency category against West Philly. On Star Trek, characters like Spock and Dr. Similarly, the DxtER uses an artificial intelligence engine that diagnoses patients by pulling together data from their personal and family history, a physical exam, and sensors.

Patients can use the DxtER on their own without the help of medical professionals. Their information can be stored and shared on a diagnostic device like an iPad or smartphone. Harris and his team built the 65 required kits for testing using just a few 3-D printers in his kitchen, with the help of his three kids ages , the Washington Post reports.
